Chris Pearsons - 3rd Base/Pitcher
HockomockSports.com First Team Oliver Ames junior Chris Pearsons got it done at the plate and in the field this year for the Tigers, who made an impressive run to the D2 South Final. Pearsons was among the best hitters in the Hock, posting a 0.448 batting average (6th in the Hock) with 30 hits (3rd in the league). “Chris had a breakout year for us at the plate, leading the team in nearly every offensive category,” said OA head coach Joe Abarr. “He had already established himself as a phenomenal defensive player with great baseball instincts, but he really came into his own as one of the best players in the league.” Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic Hit .436 as OA’s junior third baseman where he showed exceptional range defensively. ... Enjoyed bonding with teammates on and off the field this past season. ... Shooting guard in basketball. ... School activities include serving as class vice president, participating as member of student council and serving on school newspaper. ... Favorite class is history. ... Favorite athlete is Derek Jeter. ... “Chris and (senior shortstop) Matt Muir made up one of the best left sides of the infield I have seen at the high school level,” OA coach Joe Abarr said. “I am confident that Chris will go on and compete at a high level, but we are very fortunate to have him coming back for us next season.” |

Matt Muir - Shortstop/Pitcher
HockomockSports.com Second Team Oliver Ames senior Matt Muir finished a stellar high school career by helping the Tigers reach their first sectional final in over a decade. He hit 0.361 with 31 hits (two doubles, two triples), 18 runs, and 11 RBI. He struck out just four times all season in 93 plate appearances. “Matt was the heart and soul of the team this year,” said OA coach Joe Abarr. “He has a relentless but quiet work ethic that truly sets him apart from most players his age. As our shortstop, the leadoff hitter, and our most reliable relief pitcher, he filled many important roles and he will be sorely missed next year.” Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic Senior shortstop-pitcher was two-time Hockomock League All-Star hit .391, drove in 16 runs and scored 14 runs. ... Also notched three saves with an earned run average of 1.26 on the mound for the Tigers. ... Two-year captain in baseball. ... Played point guard in basketball. ... Member of National Honor Society and Class of 2018 executive board at OA. ... Favorite athlete is Manny Ramirez. ... Favorite class was history. ... Will continue his baseball career at Gettysburg College. ... “Matt Muir is an incredible athlete and person. Mitchell Goulet - Outfield
HockomockSports.com Second Team Oliver Ames senior Mitch Goulet did a lot of impressive things in his final season in black and orange. Not only was he a reliable center fielder, he provided the power to the Tiger lineup. He finished with 21 hits, including eight doubles, 19 runs, and a team-high 16 RBI. He tied for a team-high with 10 walks. “Mitch is a tremendous athlete with terrific strength that could drive the ball and parole the outfield with a great deal of skill,” said OA coach Joe Abarr. “He and Matt [Muir] were our team captains and their leadership on and off the field was incredibly valuable to me as a coach.” Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic Senior center fielder closed out high school career by hitting .297 with on-base percentage of .378. ... Three-year starter at OA was named to Hockomock League All-Star team. ... Will continue career at St. Michael’s College. ... Bryce Harper is his favorite athlete, science was his favorite class. ... High school coach believes best might lie ahead for him. ... “He has the potential for a great collegiate career because of his strength and commitment to getting better,” OA coach Joe Abarr said. |
Michael Mulrean - Pitcher
HockomockSports.com Second Team Oliver Ames senior Michael Mulrean went from reliever to ace during the 2018 season. At the beginning of the year, Mulrean was used in relief but by the end, he was the most reliable pitcher the Tigers had. Mulrean had a team-high seven wins, posting a 7-2 record with 52.2 innings of work. He struck out 63 batters, which ranked among the best in the league and finished with a 1.99 ERA. “Michael’s season was unreal when you consider that he had not previously been a starter,” said OA coach Joe Abarr. “He was an absolute bulldog on the mound and had some of the gutsiest outings I have seen at the high school level.” Brockton Enterprise All-Scholastic Staff ace went 6-2 with a save and an earned run average of 1.49. ... Most memorable moment of season was team’s participation in tournament. ... Captain in football where he played cornerback. ... Favorite athlete is Derek Jeter. ... Favorite class was English ... Plans to continue baseball career at Curry College. ...
